What I've Learned as a First-Time Independent Author
When I published my first children's book, I thought writing the story would be the hardest part.
I was wrong.
Writing the story was only the beginning.
As an independent author, I've learned that creating a book involves so much more than putting words on a page. There are illustrations, formatting, publishing decisions, websites, marketing, social media, business cards, ISBNs, and countless details that most readers never see.
At times, the process has been exciting.
At times, it has been overwhelming.
And at times, I've wondered if I was completely out of my mind for starting this journey in the first place.
But then something wonderful happens.
A reader leaves a kind review.
A parent shares a photo of their child reading the book.
A friend sends a message of encouragement.
Someone connects with a story that started as a simple idea in my heart.
Those moments make every challenge worthwhile.
One thing I've discovered is that independent authors wear many hats. We are writers, editors, marketers, website designers, business owners, and often our own biggest cheerleaders.
It's not always easy, but it is incredibly rewarding.
Blue Butterfly Books began with a dream of creating stories that bring warmth, imagination, and comfort to young readers. Watching that dream become reality has been both humbling and inspiring.
If you're an aspiring writer wondering whether you should start your own journey, my advice is simple: begin.
You don't need to have everything figured out.
Take the first step. Learn as you go. Keep moving forward.
Every published book started as a blank page.
And sometimes the biggest adventure begins with simply believing you can do it.

The Little Moments That Matter
There’s something unexpected that happens when you create a children’s book. At first, you think you’re making a story for children. Then you realize you’re also writing for parents, grandparents, and anyone who remembers what it felt like to be little.
Since sharing Morgan & EO: A Bright, Sunny Day, I’ve found myself thinking even more about those everyday moments that become childhood memories.
The favorite toy that goes everywhere.
The questions children ask that make adults stop and smile.
The feeling that a blanket fort can become a castle or a rainy afternoon can become an adventure.
Those small moments matter.
Morgan and EO were created to celebrate imagination, comfort, connection, and the simple joy of being together. Childhood moves quickly, but stories help us hold onto pieces of it a little longer.
As Bleu Butterfly Books continues to grow, my hope stays the same: to create stories that feel warm, comforting, and full of wonder.

When I first started talking about writing a children’s book, I never imagined how personal the journey would become.
Like many childhood stories, Morgan & EO began with something small. A memory. A conversation. A beloved toy monkey named EO that somehow became part of the family over the years.
As a mother, I always understood how deeply children connect to comfort items, bedtime routines, imagination, and the little adventures that feel enormous in their world. Those moments may seem ordinary to adults, but to children, they become lasting memories.
That heart is what inspired Morgan & EO: A Bright, Sunny Day.
I wanted to create stories that feel warm, safe, imaginative, and comforting. Stories families could read together while also capturing the wonder children naturally carry inside them every day.
Morgan & EO is more than a children’s book series to me. It is a celebration of childhood imagination, emotional connection, courage, curiosity, and the magic hidden inside everyday moments.
And this is only the beginning.
There are many more adventures still to come for Morgan & EO, and I’m excited to continue growing this world one story at a time.
