The Story Behind Morgan & EO

There is something magical about watching a story that began in your heart become a real book.

When I wrote Morgan & EO: A Bright, Sunny Day, I wanted to capture the simple wonder of childhood. Those ordinary days that somehow become adventures when you are little, especially when you have a favorite friend beside you.

Now, Morgan and EO are back. But this time, the skies aren't quite so sunny.

In Morgan & EO: A Stormy Day Adventure, Morgan finds himself facing something many children understand very well: a storm.

Thunder can sound awfully big when you're small. Lightning can make even a familiar room feel different. And sometimes, knowing that everything is going to be okay doesn't make something feel any less scary in the moment.

That is part of what I wanted this story to gently explore.

Courage isn't about never being afraid. Sometimes courage is curling up with someone you love, holding your favorite stuffed friend a little tighter, and discovering that the scary moment eventually passes.

And Morgan has EO.

EO may be a little monkey, but anyone who has ever watched a child love a favorite stuffed animal knows that, to them, that friend is anything but "just a toy." EO is comfort. He is companionship. He is the familiar little face that is there for every adventure, whether the sun is shining or thunder is rumbling outside.

These stories are especially close to my heart because Morgan and EO began long before they ever appeared on the pages of a book. They were inspired by my own son, Morgan, and the little monkey who was such an important part of his childhood.

Perhaps that is why writing their adventures feels a little like opening an old family photo album. The stories are new, but the love behind them has been there all along.

I hope Morgan & EO: A Stormy Day Adventure gives children a story they want to hear again and again. But even more, I hope it quietly reminds them that being scared sometimes is okay, that storms eventually pass, and that having someone beside you can make even the loudest thunder feel a little smaller.

The skies may have changed, but Morgan and EO are still together.

And another adventure is about to begin.

What I've Learned as a First-Time Independent Author

When I published my first children's book, I thought writing the story would be the hardest part.

I was wrong.

Writing the story was only the beginning.

As an independent author, I've learned that creating a book involves so much more than putting words on a page. There are illustrations, formatting, publishing decisions, websites, marketing, social media, business cards, ISBNs, and countless details that most readers never see.

At times, the process has been exciting.

At times, it has been overwhelming.

And at times, I've wondered if I was completely out of my mind for starting this journey in the first place.

But then something wonderful happens.

A reader leaves a kind review.

A parent shares a photo of their child reading the book.

A friend sends a message of encouragement.

Someone connects with a story that started as a simple idea in my heart.

Those moments make every challenge worthwhile.

One thing I've discovered is that independent authors wear many hats. We are writers, editors, marketers, website designers, business owners, and often our own biggest cheerleaders.

It's not always easy, but it is incredibly rewarding.

Blue Butterfly Books began with a dream of creating stories that bring warmth, imagination, and comfort to young readers. Watching that dream become reality has been both humbling and inspiring.

If you're an aspiring writer wondering whether you should start your own journey, my advice is simple: begin.

You don't need to have everything figured out.

Take the first step. Learn as you go. Keep moving forward.

Every published book started as a blank page.

And sometimes the biggest adventure begins with simply believing you can do it.
